Mujair Goreng (Fried Tilapia)

Ingredients:

  • 2 large tilapia fish (cleaned, gutted, and scaled)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste
  • Spice Paste:
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 2 candlenuts
    • 2 thumb-sized pieces of turmeric
    • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Begin by marinating the tilapia. Rub the fish with lime juice and a pinch of salt. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse off the excess.

  2. Prepare the spice paste by blending the garlic, candlenuts, and turmeric into a smooth mixture. Adjust the seasoning with a little salt. Coat the fish thoroughly with this spice paste, ensuring it’s well-seasoned. Allow the fish to marinate for an additional 30 minutes, letting the flavors infuse.

  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the marinated fish to the pan. Fry the fish until it reaches your desired level of crispiness, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  4. Remove the fish from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips: For extra crispiness, you can coat the fish lightly with flour before frying. Adjust the spice levels according to your preference and enjoy this deliciously fried tilapia with a side of steamed rice or your favorite vegetable dish.
