Crispy Tahu Kriting with Garlic and Chili

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu (large, Chinese-style)
  • 7 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
  • 3 small red chilies (sliced thinly)
  • Seasoning to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the coated tofu cubes in batches, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Set aside.

  5. Prepare the Aromatics:
    In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped garlic until it turns golden brown and fragrant. Remove the garlic from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed and fry the sliced red chilies until they become crispy.

  6. Combine and Season:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the crispy tofu, sautéed garlic, and fried chilies. Toss everything together until the tofu is evenly coated with the garlic and chili mixture. Season with salt and additional seasoning to taste.
