- 1 lime
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 1/2 sachet chicken bouillon powder
- Water, as needed
- 1 egg
- For the batter:
- 10 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- Alternatively, use pre-mixed batter flour (like Sajiku or Kobe)
- For the sauce:
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 red chilies or bell peppers
- 2 stalks green onions
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Fish:
- Clean the gurame fish thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels.
- Rub the fish with salt and lime juice, then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Rinse the fish again and pat dry.
- Sprinkle the chicken bouillon powder over the fish and mix well. Let it marinate for approximately 15 minutes.
-
Batter the Fish:
- Beat the egg in a shallow dish.
- Dip the marinated fish into the beaten egg, ensuring it is well-coated.
- Dredge the fish in a mixture of all-purpose flour and cornstarch, pressing lightly to help the coating adhere. This will give the fish a crispy texture when fried.
-
Fry the Fish:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Fry the coated fish until it turns golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
-
Prepare the Sauce:
- For the sauce, heat a small amount of oil in a pan.
- Sauté the chopped onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the sliced red chilies and green onions, and stir briefly.
- Pour in a small amount of water to create a sauce base.
- Stir in the chili sauce, tomato ketchup, granulated sugar, and salt to taste.
- Cook until the sauce thickens and bubbles, adjusting the seasoning as needed.
-
Serve:
- Place the fried fish on a serving plate.
- Spoon the prepared sauce over the fish or serve it on the side.
- Garnish with additional green onions if desired.
Enjoy this delightful Sweet and Sour Gurame Fish, perfect for a delicious family meal or special occasion.
