Baked Homemade Croutons with Herbs Recipe

Cuisine: Continental
Course: Side Dish
Diet: Vegetarian

Description:
These Baked Homemade Croutons with Herbs are incredibly easy to make. Simply dice slices of whole wheat brown bread (or a baguette), toss them in olive oil, garlic powder, mixed herbs, and salt, then bake them at low heat until they turn crispy and delicious. They make the perfect crunchy addition to any salad or soup.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Whole Wheat Brown Bread (cut into cubes, regular loaf or baguette works)
  • 1/3 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Mixed Dried Herbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread, garlic powder, mixed herbs, and salt.
  3. Drizzle the olive oil over the bread cubes, stirring well to ensure the bread is evenly coated with the herbs, garlic powder, and salt. Make sure all the cubes absorb the olive oil.
  4. Spread the seasoned bread cubes into a single layer on a baking sheet, ensuring they are not crowded.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, turning the croutons halfway through the baking time, until they are evenly golden and crispy on all sides.
  6. Once done, remove the croutons from the oven and allow them to cool at room temperature. This helps them become even crispier.
  7. Once completely cooled, store the croutons in an airtight container. Use them as needed for salads, soups, or as a snack!

Enjoy your homemade, herbed croutons!
