Easy Chicken Crackers (Kremesan Ayam Mudah)

Ingredients

  • 10 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 4 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 500 ml water (chicken broth from poaching chicken is preferred)
  • Seasonings:
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or freshly ground garlic)
    • Salt to taste
    • Masako (seasoning powder) to taste, optional
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preparation and Blessing: Begin by saying “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah) as a blessing for the cooking process.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: tapioca flour, rice flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and Masako if using. Mix well.
  3. Taste Test: Adjust the seasoning to your taste before adding the liquid ingredients.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the egg yolk and water gradually while continuously stirring until the batter is smooth and well-mixed. If chicken broth is not available, plain water or water mixed with 2 teaspoons of chicken seasoning can be used.
  5. Heat Oil: Heat a generous amount of oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. The oil should be hot enough for frying.
  6. Frying Process: Using a spoon, carefully pour the batter into the hot oil from a height of about 30 cm (12 inches). This height helps create the characteristic crispy texture of the crackers. Fry until the crackers are golden yellow and can be folded easily.
  7. Drain Excess Oil: Once fried, remove the crackers from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. These crackers tend to absorb a lot of oil, so ensure they are well-drained.
  8. Serve: The crispy chicken crackers are now ready to be served. Enjoy them as a delightful snack or as a side dish to your favorite meal. Enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Broth Enhancement: Using chicken broth instead of plain water adds a depth of flavor to the crackers.
  • Frying Technique: Pouring the batter from a height creates an airy, crispy texture, which is the hallmark of this snack.
  • Oil Temperature: Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the crackers from becoming greasy.

This simple and delicious recipe for Kremesan Ayam Mudah will bring a taste of Indonesian cuisine to your kitchen. Perfect as a snack or accompaniment to your main dishes, these crispy chicken crackers are sure to be a hit with your family and friends. Enjoy the cooking process and the delightful crunch of your homemade Kremesan Ayam!
