Tahu Aci: A Delicious Indonesian Treat

Ingredients:

  • 10 pieces of tofu skin
  • 7 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 clove of garlic, peeled and grated
  • 2 shallots, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 stalk of green onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and chicken-flavored seasoning (such as Royco), to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Water, as needed

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Slice each tofu skin in half and scoop out the insides. Set aside the scooped-out tofu.
  2. Boil Water: Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  3. Make the Filling:
    • In a bowl, combine the tapioca flour, all-purpose flour, sliced green onion, sliced shallots, grated garlic, salt, and chicken-flavored seasoning.
    • Gradually pour in the boiling water, stirring continuously until you achieve a slightly thick consistency. The mixture should not be too runny to avoid it becoming too soft.
  4. Fill the Tofu: Spoon the mixture into the hollowed tofu skins until all the mixture is used up.
  5. Steam the Tofu: Heat a steamer and steam the filled tofu for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the steamer and let cool.
  6. Fry the Tofu: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the steamed tofu until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve: Serve the Tahu Aci with your choice of dipping sauce. Popular options include sambal (chili sauce), peanut sauce, or kecap manis (sweet soy sauce).
