Tahu Bulat: Indonesian Fried Tofu Balls

Ingredients:

  • 11 pieces of white tofu, pre-boiled
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 2 stalks of green onions
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Sugar, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chicken seasoning powder (Royco)
  • Fried shallots, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Begin by mashing the pre-boiled tofu using a spoon until it becomes smooth and creamy.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:

    • Grate the carrot finely using a grater.
    • Chop the green onions and celery into small pieces.
  3. Mix the Ingredients:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed tofu, grated carrot, chopped green onions, and celery.
    • Add the egg, minced garlic, salt, sugar to taste, chicken seasoning powder, and fried shallots.
    • Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  4. Form the Tofu Balls:

    • Shape the tofu mixture into small balls, adjusting the size based on the amount of mixture you have.
  5. Fry the Tofu Balls:

    • Heat a skillet over low heat and add a generous amount of oil.
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu balls to the pan.
    • Fry them until they turn golden brown, then gently flip them to cook the other side. Be cautious not to overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking and prevent the tofu balls from breaking.
  6. Serve:

    • Once all the tofu balls are crispy and golden brown, remove them from the pan and drain on paper towels.
    • Serve hot as a delicious snack or appetizer.

Enjoy the crispy, savory delight of Tahu Bulat, a popular Indonesian treat that’s perfect for sharing with family and friends!
