Crunchy Tahu Sticks (Indonesian Fried Tofu)

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of tofu, sliced thinly
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cooking oil, for frying

For the Batter:

  • 100 grams all-purpose flour
  • 50 grams rice flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Water (add gradually until the batter is just thick enough, not too runny)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Slice the tofu into thin strips.
    • Season the tofu slices with salt.
    • Heat cooking oil in a pan and fry the tofu slices until they are crispy and golden brown.
    • Once fried, cut the tofu slices into sticks.
  2. Make the Batter:

    • In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour, salt, minced garlic, and ground black pepper.
    • Gradually add water, stirring constantly, until you achieve a smooth batter that is thick enough to coat the tofu but not too runny.
  3. Fry the Tofu Sticks:

    • Heat a sufficient amount of cooking oil in a pan.
    • Dip the fried tofu sticks into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
    • Fry the battered tofu sticks in the hot oil until they become golden and crispy.
  4. Serve:

    • Once crispy, remove the tofu sticks from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
    • Serve the crunchy tahu sticks as a delightful snack or as a side dish.
