Instructions for Making Ram Ladoo

Step 1: Soak the Lentils

Begin by soaking the yellow moong dal and chana dal separately in enough water for 2 to 3 hours. This will help soften the dals and make them easier to grind.

Step 2: Make the Ladoo Batter

  1. Drain the soaked chana dal and grind it along with the green chillies and ginger in a mixer-grinder to a smooth paste. Make sure not to add any water.
  2. Similarly, grind the soaked yellow moong dal in a mixer-grinder to form a smooth paste.
  3. Combine the two pastes in a mixing bowl. Add salt and the chopped coriander leaves. Mix everything well and set the batter aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Green Chutney

  1. In a grinder, combine the mint leaves (pudina), coriander leaves (dhania), garlic, grated ginger, and green chilli.
  2. Add a little water and grind to form a smooth chutney.
  3. Transfer the chutney to a bowl and set it aside for serving.

Step 4: Cooking the Ram Ladoo

  1. Heat a paniyaram pan or appe pan over a low-medium flame. Add 1 teaspoon of oil into each cavity of the pan.
  2. Once the pan is hot, spoon 1 tablespoon of the prepared batter into each cavity until it is about half-filled.
  3. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the ladoos on low-medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Open the lid, carefully turn each ladoo to cook the other side. Once they are golden brown and crisp on all sides, remove the ladoos from the pan.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

Step 5: Assembling and Serving

  1. To serve the Ram Ladoo, arrange them on a plate or in a bowl.
  2. Pour the freshly prepared green chutney over the ladoos.
  3. Garnish with grated radish (mooli) and sprinkle some chaat masala powder or black salt on top for extra flavor.

Serving Suggestions

  • Tea Time Snack: Serve Ram Ladoo with hot masala chai as a delicious evening snack with your family and friends.
  • Party Appetizer: You can also serve these ladoos as an appetizer alongside dishes like Whole Wheat Palak Naan, Creamy Dal Makhani, and Boondi Raita.

Tips & Variations

  • Chutney Options: While the green chutney is a classic, you can also serve these ladoos with tamarind chutney or date chutney for a sweet and tangy variation.
  • Frying: If you do not have a paniyaram pan, you can deep fry the ladoos in hot oil, but the paniyaram pan ensures a healthier, less greasy version.
  • Spices: Feel free to adjust the amount of green chillies and ginger according to your spice preference.
