- 1 egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
Prepare Okra:
- Wash the okra thoroughly and drain well.
- Cut off the tips and stem ends, then slice the okra crosswise into 1/2 inch pieces.
-
Prepare Coating:
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and black pepper.
-
Prepare Egg Wash:

-
Coat Okra:
- Add about one-third of the sliced okra to the egg mixture.
- Remove the okra pieces with a slotted spoon and transfer them to the flour mixture.
- Gently stir to coat the okra pieces evenly with the flour mixture.
-
Frying:
- In a Dutch oven or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully add the coated okra pieces in batches to the hot oil.
- Fry until the okra turns golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
-
Drain and Serve:
- Remove the fried okra from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Repeat the frying process with the remaining batches of okra.
-
Serve Hot:
- Once all the okra batches are fried and drained, transfer them to a serving platter.
- Serve the deep fried okra hot as a delightful appetizer or side dish.
Notes
