Tahu Isi (Stuffed Tofu)
Ingredients:
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rice flour
- 1 cup finely shredded cabbage
- 1 cup grated carrot
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon seasoning powder (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Tofu:
- Begin by soaking the tofu in warm water with a pinch of salt for about 30 minutes. This helps to enhance the flavor and texture. After soaking, cut the tofu block in half lengthwise to create a pocket for the filling.
-
Cook the Vegetables:
- Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and black pepper, sautéing until fragrant. Add a splash of water to the skillet, then incorporate the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, and bean sprouts. Cook the vegetables until they are tender but still crisp. Set aside to cool.
-
Prepare the Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour, and a pinch of salt. If using, add the seasoning powder for extra flavor. Gradually add water to the flour mixture, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
-
Stuff the Tofu:
- Carefully stuff the prepared tofu pockets with the vegetable mixture. Be gentle to avoid tearing the tofu.
-
Coat and Fry the Tofu:
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Dip each stuffed tofu piece into the batter, making sure to coat it thoroughly. Fry the tofu in the hot oil until it is golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
-
Serve:
- Once fried, remove the tofu from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy!
This flavorful and crispy Tahu Isi is a delightful treat perfect for any meal. Enjoy your cooking adventure! 😉
