Crispy Stuffed Tofu (Tahu Isi a.k.a Tahu Susur)
Ingredients:
- 20 pieces of firm tofu (brown tofu)
- Oil, for frying
For the batter:
- 150 grams all-purpose flour
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed
For the filling:
- 4 carrots, peeled and julienned into matchstick-sized strips
- 200 grams bean sprouts
- Spices to be blended:
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Salt, to taste
Instructions:

Prepare the Tofu:
- Clean the tofu thoroughly and make a small slit in the center of each piece to create a pocket for the filling.

Cook the Filling:
- Heat a little oil in a pan and sauté the blended spices until fragrant.
- Add the bean sprouts and julienned carrots to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Stuff the Tofu:
- Spoon the prepared filling into each tofu pocket, pressing gently to ensure the filling stays in place.

Prepare the Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, ground black pepper, and salt. Gradually add water and mix until you achieve a smooth batter with a consistency that can coat the tofu.

Coat and Fry the Tofu:
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Dip each stuffed tofu piece into the batter, ensuring it is evenly coated.
- Fry the tofu in hot oil until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
