Servings: 4 | Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 25 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

For the Tilapia:

  • 3 whole tilapia, cleaned

For the Sauce:

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 shallots, minced
  • 15 bird’s eye chilies, finely chopped
  • Tomato sauce, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tilapia:

    • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the cleaned tilapia until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if necessary and heat over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and shallots. Sauté until fragrant and the onion becomes translucent.
    • Add the chopped bird’s eye chilies and continue to sauté for another 2 minutes.
    • Pour in a small amount of water to the skillet and bring to a simmer.
    • Stir in tomato sauce, adjusting the amount to your preference for thickness and flavor.
    • Season with salt and sugar to taste, ensuring a balanced sweet and sour flavor.
  3. Combine and Serve:

    • Return the fried tilapia to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the fish to coat evenly.
    • Allow the fish to simmer in the sauce for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
    • Serve the sweet and sour tilapia hot with a side of steamed rice.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Sweet and Sour Tilapia, a perfect blend of crispy fried fish and a tangy, savory sauce that will delight your taste buds. Happy cooking!
