Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces and deep-fry them until golden brown. Set aside.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: In a pan, heat a little cooking oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and the spice paste (garlic and green chili). Sauté until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
  3. Create the Sauce: Pour in enough water to create a sauce. Add sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, sugar, oyster sauce, and ground black pepper. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Once boiling, add the fried tofu, pete, and tomato. Stir gently to coat the tofu with the sauce and allow the flavors to meld for a few minutes.
  5. Finish with Greens: Add the sliced bird’s eye chili and green onion. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Pour in the cornstarch mixture, stirring until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Enjoy your Tahu Dangdut Medan warm with steamed rice or as part of a larger feast!
