Tahu Geprek Sambal Bawang: Crispy Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sambal
Ingredients:
- 2 medium-sized tofu blocks (fried)
- For the Sambal:
- 5 bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)
- 1 garlic clove
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon hot oil

- Begin by frying the tofu blocks until they are golden and crispy. Set them aside to cool slightly.

- In a mortar and pestle or a food processor, combine the bird’s eye chilies and garlic clove. Grind or blend them into a smooth paste.
- Add salt to taste. Continue to blend until well combined.

Add Hot Oil:
- In a small pan, heat the oil until it is very hot. Carefully pour the hot oil over the sambal mixture, stirring quickly to incorporate.

- Place the fried tofu blocks on a serving plate. Gently press or “smash” the tofu using a spoon or the back of a spatula, so that it slightly breaks apart.
- Spoon the prepared sambal generously over the tofu.
