Instructions
-
Preparing the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Add 1 tablespoon of oil.
- Gradually add water while mixing to form a soft dough. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Once the dough is formed, add 1 tablespoon of oil and knead again to make the dough even smoother.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes.
-
Dividing and Shaping the Dough:
- After resting, knead the dough once more and divide it into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a ball, flatten it slightly using your palm, and dust with dry flour.
- Using a rolling pin (belan), roll the dough into a circle or square, ensuring the thickness is even.
-
Shaping Triangle Paratha:
- To make a triangular paratha, fold the rolled dough into a semi-circle, then fold it again to form a smaller triangle.
- Dust it with flour and carefully roll it out into a larger triangle shape.
-
Cooking the Paratha:
- Preheat a tava (griddle) over medium heat. Once hot, place the rolled paratha onto the tava.
- As the paratha begins to cook, you will notice air pockets forming. Flip the paratha and immediately brush it with 1/2 tsp of ghee on the cooked side.
- Using a flat spatula, press down gently to ensure the paratha cooks evenly.
- Flip the paratha again and cook the other side until brown spots appear and it becomes slightly crisp.
- Once cooked, remove from the tava and set aside.
-
Serving:
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
- Serve the freshly made Tawa Parathas hot, ideally with a side of raita (burani raita) and a flavorful potato curry or any other vegetable dish of your choice.
