Tempe Gembus Goreng: A Crispy Indonesian Delight

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Tempe Gembus 200 grams (3 small packets)
All-Purpose Flour 7 tablespoons
Shallots 7 cloves
Garlic 5 cloves
Ground Pepper 1 teaspoon
Salt To taste
Bird’s Eye Chili To taste
Sweet Soy Sauce (Sambal Kecap) To serve
Lime Juice To taste

Instructions:

  1. Preparation of Tempe: Cut the tempe gembus into bite-sized pieces according to your preference. Set aside for later use.

  2. Aromatics: In a mortar and pestle, coarsely grind the shallots and garlic until fragrant. This will enhance the flavor when fried.

  3. Batter Creation: Combine the all-purpose flour with the ground aromatics in a bowl. Add the ground pepper and salt, then gradually mix in enough water to create a smooth batter. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  4. Frying: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Dip the tempe pieces into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated, then carefully add them to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy.

  5. Sambal Kecap: For the sambal kecap, finely grind the fried garlic and bird’s eye chili together. Once well blended, mix in sweet soy sauce and a pinch of salt. Squeeze in some lime juice for added zest.

  6. Serve: Enjoy your crispy tempe gembus with the sambal kecap as a dipping sauce. Perfect as a snack or appetizer!

Happy Cooking! 😊
