Tempe Kress: Crispy Tempe Snack Recipe

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Soy tempe (tempe kedelai) 1 block
Water (for soaking) Enough to cover tempe
Salt To taste
Seasoning (such as Maggi) To taste
All-purpose flour (tepung terigu) 10 tablespoons

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tempe: Slice the tempe into long, thin strips. This helps the tempe absorb the flavors better and gives it a nice, crispy texture when fried.

  2. Soak the Tempe: In a bowl, prepare a mixture of water, salt, and seasoning (like Maggi). Soak the sliced tempe in this mixture for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the tempe thoroughly.

  3. Drain the Tempe: After 10 minutes, drain the tempe to remove excess water. Set aside.

  4. Prepare Wet Flour Coating: In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with enough water to form a smooth batter. The batter should be thick, not runny, so it can coat the tempe evenly.

  5. Prepare Dry Flour Coating: In another bowl, place the remaining flour for coating the tempe. This dry mixture should not have any water in it. This will be used to coat the tempe after dipping it in the wet batter.

  6. Coat the Tempe: Take each slice of soaked tempe and dip it into the wet batter until fully coated. Then, gently press the coated tempe into the dry flour mixture. Make sure the flour sticks well to the tempe. Press lightly to ensure an even coating.

  7. Fry the Tempe: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the coated tempe into the hot oil. Fry each piece until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. The tempe should be crispy on all sides.

  8. Prepare the Crispy Flour: For an extra crispy treat, you can use any leftover wet and dry flour mixtures to make crispy crumbs. Mix the two together, and if the mixture is too runny, add more flour to thicken it. Fry these crispy bits in the same oil until they turn golden brown and crunchy.

  9. Drain and Serve: Once the tempe is golden and crispy, remove it from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  10. Enjoy While Warm: Serve your crispy tempe kress hot, and enjoy it as a delicious snack or side dish. The crispy texture will remind you of KFC-style fried treats, with every bite being perfectly crunchy and flavorful.

Note: For the crispiest result, make sure the flour mixture is thick and well-coated on the tempe. The key to getting a KFC-like crispiness is ensuring the batter is properly thick and not too watery.

Enjoy this tasty and crunchy Tempe Kress as an easy snack, side dish, or even a unique addition to any meal!
