Tempe Nuggets Recipe

Ingredients:

Tempe (fermented soybean cake) 1 block (approximately 200g)
Eggs 2
Sago flour (tapioca flour) 2 tablespoons
All-purpose flour 3 tablespoons
Royco seasoning powder 1 packet
Garlic cloves 2, minced
Shallots 3, minced
Breadcrumbs As needed for coating

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tempe:
    Start by steaming the tempe for about 10-15 minutes until it is thoroughly cooked. This helps soften the tempe for easier blending.

  2. Mash the Tempe:
    Once steamed, mash the tempe with a fork or potato masher until it breaks apart. Then, transfer the mashed tempe into a blender.

  3. Blend the Ingredients:
    Add the eggs, sago flour, all-purpose flour, Royco seasoning, garlic, and shallots into the blender with the mashed tempe. Add a small amount of water (just enough to help the blending process). Blend everything until smooth and well combined.

  4. Steam the Mixture:
    Once the mixture is blended, transfer it into a greased dish or mold. Steam for about 20 minutes until the mixture is firm and set. After steaming, let it cool down before cutting it into bite-sized pieces.

  5. Coat and Fry:
    After cooling, dip each piece of the tempe mixture into a beaten egg, then coat it generously with breadcrumbs.

  6. Fry Until Golden:
    Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tempe nuggets until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.

  7. Serve:
    Once crispy and golden, the tempe nuggets are ready to be served! Enjoy them as a snack or side dish with your favorite dipping sauce.
