Steak Tempe Sederhana

Ingredients:

For the Tempe Steak:

Tempe 1 block (approx. 200g) Prices may vary
Garlic 1 clove Minced
Shallots 2 cloves Minced
Ground Black Pepper ½ tsp To taste
Ground Coriander ½ tsp To taste
Salt ¼ tsp To taste
Sugar ¼ tsp To taste
All-purpose Flour 2 tbsp Can use any all-purpose mix
Egg 1 Beaten
Butter or Oil 2 tbsp For frying

For the Sauce:

Ingredient Amount Notes
Chili Sauce 3 tbsp Use your favorite brand
Black Pepper Sauce 1 tbsp Use your favorite brand
Onion (medium-sized) ½, thinly sliced
Garlic 1 clove, thinly sliced
Shallot 1 clove, thinly sliced
Cornstarch ½ tsp Optional
Butter 1 tbsp
Water 100 ml

For the Sides:

Ingredient Amount Notes
Carrot 1, sliced
Cauliflower ¼, cut into florets
Potatoes 1 large, peeled For mashed potatoes
Butter 1 tbsp For mashed potatoes
Milk (optional) 3 tbsp Plain UHT
Black Pepper To taste
Green Onion (optional) 1 stalk, finely sliced For garnish

Instructions:

For the Tempe Steak:

  1. Steam the Tempe: Steam the tempe for about 15 minutes until tender.
  2. Prepare the Spice Mixture: While steaming, blend the garlic, shallots, black pepper, coriander, salt, and sugar until smooth.
  3. Mash the Tempe: Once steamed, mash the tempe until it reaches a fine consistency.
  4. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, mix the mashed tempe with flour, beaten egg, and the prepared spice mixture until well combined.
  5. Form the Steaks: Divide the mixture into two portions and shape each into a patty.
  6. Fry the Steaks: Heat the butter in a pan and fry the tempe patties until golden brown on both sides. Remove and set aside.

For the Sauce:

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In the same pan, add butter and sauté the sliced onion, shallots, and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add Sauces: Stir in the chili sauce and black pepper sauce, mixing well.
  3. Thicken the Sauce: If desired, dissolve cornstarch in water and add to the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened, then remove from heat.

For the Sides:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Cut the carrot and cauliflower to your desired size. Steam the vegetables until tender but still vibrant in color.
  2. Make Mashed Potatoes: Steam the potato until fully cooked, then mash while still warm. Mix in butter, optional milk, and season with black pepper.
  3. Serve: Place the mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, and tempe steaks on a plate.

Plating:

  • Arrange the tempe steak, vegetables, and mashed potatoes on a plate.
  • Drizzle the tempe steak with the sauce.
  • Garnish the mashed potatoes with sliced green onions, if using.
