Keripik Tempe Renyah: A Crunchy Tempeh Snack Recipe

Discover the delightful world of Keripik Tempe Renyah, a traditional Indonesian crunchy tempeh snack that’s both satisfying and simple to prepare. This recipe combines the rich flavors of tempeh with a crispy coating, creating a delectable treat perfect for snacking or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Soybeans (tempeh starter) 200 grams
Tapioca flour 150 grams
Dip seasoning To taste
Water As needed
Garlic (finely crushed) 3 cloves
Ground coriander 1 teaspoon
Salt To taste
Chicken broth powder To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tempeh Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the soybeans and tapioca flour. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. Pack and Ferment: Transfer the mixture into a plastic bag. Press the contents down firmly to compact them. Use a skewer or toothpick to poke several holes in the plastic bag. This allows air to circulate, promoting fermentation. Leave the bag hanging in a warm place for up to 24 hours, allowing the mixture to ferment and transform into tempeh.

  3. Slice the Tempeh: Once fermented, carefully remove the tempeh from the bag and slice it into thin pieces. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even cooking.

  4. Prepare the Dip: Dip the sliced tempeh into your chosen dip seasoning to enhance its flavor.

  5. Fry the Tempeh: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated tempeh slices. Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy, which should take about 2-3 minutes on each side. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.

  6. Cool and Store: Once cooked, remove the tempeh from the oil and place it on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Allow it to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container or jar for storage.
