Ikan Nila Goreng Sambal Dabu-Dabu

Ingredients:

For the Fish:

  • 1 small tilapia fish (ikan nila)
  • Seasoning Paste:
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
    • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
    • Salt to taste
    • A splash of cooking oil

For the Sambal Dabu-Dabu:

  • 20 red chilies, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 4 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 5 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 lime
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:
Begin by cleaning the tilapia thoroughly, then rub the fish with lime juice to remove any fishy odor. Set aside to marinate for a few minutes.

  2. Make the Seasoning Paste:
In a mortar and pestle or food processor, combine the garlic, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Blend until you have a smooth paste. Add a splash of cooking oil to help the mixture blend more easily.

  3. Marinate the Fish:
Rub the prepared seasoning paste all over the fish, ensuring it’s well coated. Let the fish sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the flesh.

  4. Prepare the Sambal Dabu-Dabu:
In a bowl, combine the sliced chilies, tomatoes, and shallots. Drizzle with coconut oil and sprinkle with salt. Squeeze in the juice of one lime and mix everything together gently to combine.

  5. Fry the Fish:
Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the marinated fish and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes on each side depending on the thickness of the fish.

  6. Serve:
Once the fish is cooked, remove it from the pan and place it on a serving plate. Top generously with the sambal dabu-dabu, allowing the vibrant flavors to complement the crispy fish.

Enjoy your Ikan Nila Goreng Sambal Dabu-Dabu, a delightful dish that brings the taste of Indonesia to your table! Perfect for sharing with family and friends.
