Tempe Tahu Crispy with Black Pepper Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Main Ingredients:
- 2 blocks of white tofu, cut into 16 cubes
- 1 block of tempeh, cut into 6 cubes
- 1 carrot, julienned
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 yellow bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 2 red bird’s eye chilies, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- Soy sauce (kecap asin)
- Granulated sugar
- Salt
- Black pepper, freshly ground
- Water
- Cornstarch
Additional Ingredients:
- All-purpose flour seasoned for frying tofu and tempeh
- Cooking oil
Instructions:

Prepare the Tofu and Tempeh:
- Cut the tofu and tempeh into bite-sized cubes.
- Dip each piece into a seasoned flour mixture (prepared by mixing flour with a pinch of salt and pepper) and then into a water slurry to coat evenly.

Fry the Tofu and Tempeh:
- Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the coated tofu and tempeh cubes to the pan.
- Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Sauce:
- In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
- Sauté the garlic, onion, and chilies until they become fragrant and the onions turn translucent.
- Add the julienned carrot and diced bell peppers to the pan.
- Pour in a small amount of water and let it simmer for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.

- Stir in the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, granulated sugar, and salt. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
- Dissolve cornstarch in a little water and add it to the sauce mixture.
- Stir continuously until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

- Gently fold the crispy tofu and tempeh into the sauce, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper over the top.
