Batagor Tahu with Sweet and Spicy Sauce

Ingredients:

  • For the Batagor:

    • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon tapioca flour
    • Salt, to taste
    • Masako (or any bouillon powder), to taste
    • 1/2 tablespoon margarine
    • Firm tofu, cut into small cubes
  • For the Sauce:

    • 2 tomatoes
    • 1 large onion
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
    • Salt, to taste
    • Sugar, to taste
    • Masako (or any bouillon powder), to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Cut the tofu into small, bite-sized cubes. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, salt, Masako, and margarine. Mix well.
    • Gently coat the tofu cubes with the batter mixture.
  3. Fry the Tofu:

    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
    • Fry the battered tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Sauce:

    • Finely chop the onion. Set aside.
    • In a blender, combine the tomatoes, garlic, and any additional chili if desired (for extra heat). Blend until smooth.
    • In a skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent and fragrant.
    • Add the blended tomato mixture to the skillet. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
    • Season with salt, sugar, and Masako to taste. Add sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) according to your preference. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
  5. Serve:

    • Arrange the fried tofu cubes on a serving plate.
    • Drizzle generously with the sweet and spicy sauce.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!
