Tahu Fantasi Recipe
This delightful Tahu Fantasi, or Fantasy Tofu, is a flavorful and satisfying dish that blends crispy tofu with vegetables and seasonings. Ideal for a snack or a light meal, this recipe is simple yet delicious, offering a unique twist on traditional tofu preparations. Here’s how you can make this delectable dish:
Ingredients
- 600 grams of Firm Tofu (1.5 large blocks)
- 70 grams Carrot (1 medium, peeled and grated)
- 2/3 sheet Corn Vermicelli (soaked in boiling water and drained, then cut into small pieces)
- 1 Green Onion (finely sliced; you can also use celery if preferred)
- 2 Large Eggs (approximately 150 ml, beaten)
- 4 Cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1 Packet of Chicken Bouillon Powder
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
For the Coating:
- 2 Large Eggs (or 100 ml egg whites)
- 2 tablespoons Tapioca Flour
- 2 tablespoons Water
- A pinch of Salt and Pepper

Prepare the Tofu Mixture:
- Start by crumbling the tofu into small pieces, ensuring there are no large chunks.
- Grate the carrot directly over the crumbled tofu.
- Mince the garlic and add it to the tofu mixture.
- Season with salt, pepper, and chicken bouillon powder.
- Add the soaked and cut corn vermicelli and finely sliced green onion.
- Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. It’s important to taste the mixture at this stage, as you won’t be able to adjust the seasoning once the eggs are added.

Incorporate the Eggs:
- Pour the beaten eggs into the tofu mixture and stir well until everything is evenly combined.

Prepare the Steamer:
- Lightly grease small cupcake or pudding molds with oil.
- Spoon the tofu mixture into the molds, filling them about three-quarters full. Press the mixture down gently to compact it.
- You should be able to fill about 18 small molds with the mixture.

Steam the Tofu:
- Arrange the molds in a steamer and cover with a clean cloth to prevent condensation from dripping onto the tofu.
- Steam for 20-30 minutes, or until the tofu is set and firm to the touch.
- Allow the tofu to cool in the molds before removing. Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to help it firm up further and prevent it from breaking apart during frying.

Prepare the Coating:
- In a bowl, combine the tapioca flour, salt, and pepper with the water to create a smooth batter.
- Add the eggs and whisk until fully incorporated.

Fry the Tofu:
- Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Dip each piece of tofu into the prepared coating mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Fry the tofu pieces in batches, cooking until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
