Perkedel Tahu Praktis: A Delightful Indonesian Snack

Discover the joy of making Perkedel Tahu, a simple yet flavorful Indonesian dish that brings together the delightful texture of tofu and the aromatic flavors of spices, making it a perfect snack or appetizer for any occasion. This recipe is not only easy to prepare but also a wonderful way to enjoy plant-based ingredients.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Firm white tofu 1 package (approximately 300g)
Green onions (daun bawang) 2 stalks, finely sliced
Chicken egg 1 large
All-purpose flour 2 tablespoons
For the Spice Paste:
Shallots (bawang merah) 4 cloves
Garlic (bawang putih) 2 cloves
Salt to taste
Granulated sugar to taste (to substitute for MSG)
Ground coriander (ketumbar) to taste
Ground black pepper (merica) to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Start by thoroughly washing the tofu under running water. Once clean, crumble it into a bowl using a fork, breaking it into small pieces.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a mortar and pestle or a food processor, combine the shallots and garlic with a pinch of salt. Grind them into a smooth paste that releases a wonderful aroma.

  3. Combine Ingredients: In the bowl with crumbled tofu, add the ground spice mixture, the sliced green onions, the egg, and all-purpose flour. Sprinkle in the granulated sugar, salt, ground coriander, and ground black pepper to taste. Mix everything together until well combined, ensuring that the spices and other ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the tofu.

  4. Taste and Adjust: Since this recipe substitutes for MSG with sugar, make sure to taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning as needed.

  5. Fry the Perkedel: Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, scoop spoonfuls of the tofu mixture and gently drop them into the hot oil. Fry until each piece turns a beautiful golden brown and is crispy on the outside, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. Drain and Serve: Once cooked, remove the perkedel from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve warm as a delicious snack or appetizer.
