Simple Tofu Fritters (Perkedel Tahu)

Ingredients:

  • 10 pieces of firm tofu, mashed
  • 1 stalk of green onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt to taste
  • Granulated sugar to taste

For the spice paste:

  • 4 shallots
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper

For frying:

  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu Mixture:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed tofu with the beaten egg, sliced green onion, salt, and granulated sugar. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Make the Spice Paste:

    • Blend the shallots, garlic, and white pepper into a fine paste. Add this spice paste to the tofu mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. Form the Fritters:

    • Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
    • Take a handful of the tofu mixture and shape it into a ball or patty using your hands. Press firmly to make sure it holds together.
  4. Fry the Fritters:

    • Carefully place the tofu balls or patties into the hot oil. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. This should take about 3-5 minutes per side.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
