Tahu Rolade with Egg Noodles

This recipe for Tahu Rolade with Egg Noodles is a delightful fusion of savory tofu, vibrant vegetables, and flavorful spices, all wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection. The final touch is a crispy, golden-brown exterior achieved by frying. Ideal for a special meal or a tasty snack, this dish is both satisfying and unique.

Ingredients:

  • 10 pieces of firm tofu
  • 2 eggs (for the mixture)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for dipping)
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 100 grams of corn vermicelli (mbihun jagung)
  • Seasoning (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Cooking oil (for frying)
  • Banana leaves (for steaming)
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 stalks of green onions

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Mash the tofu until smooth.
    • Slice the carrots into thin rounds.
    • Chop the green onions into small pieces.
    • Boil the corn vermicelli according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  2. Make the Mixture:

    • Grind the garlic and black peppercorns together until finely ground.
    • In a large bowl, combine the mashed tofu with the ground garlic and pepper mixture.
    • Add the sliced carrots, chopped green onions, corn vermicelli, and the two beaten eggs. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
    • Season with salt and any additional seasoning to taste. Mix again and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Rolades:

    • Prepare the banana leaves by cleaning and cutting them into pieces large enough to wrap the tofu mixture.
    • Place a portion of the tofu mixture onto a piece of banana leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the mixture and roll it tightly. Secure the ends with toothpicks or bamboo skewers.
    • Continue this process until all the mixture is used. You should end up with about 5 rolls, depending on the size.
  4. Steam the Rolades:

    • Steam the wrapped rolls for about 20-30 minutes, or until the banana leaves have changed color and the tofu mixture is cooked through. Remove from the steamer and allow to cool.
  5. Fry the Rolades:

    • Once cooled, cut the rolls into bite-sized pieces.
    • Dip each piece in the beaten egg and fry in hot oil until golden brown and crispy. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
    • Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve the crispy Tahu Rolade hot as a delicious appetizer or snack. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of fresh vegetables.

This Tahu Rolade with Egg Noodles combines traditional Indonesian flavors with a unique twist, offering a crunchy exterior and a flavorful, savory filling. Perfect for family gatherings or a satisfying treat any time of the day!
