Stir-Fried Tofu with Bean Sprouts and Scallions Recipe (Tumis Tahu Tauge Bunga Bawang)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tofu, diced into small cubes, fried 4 pieces
Scallions, sliced into 2-inch pieces 15 stalks
Bean sprouts 2 packs
Shallots, thinly sliced 6 cloves
Garlic, thinly sliced 4 cloves
Bird’s eye chilies, thinly sliced (optional, to taste) 5 pieces
Small onion, finely chopped 1/2 (small size)
Oyster sauce 1 tablespoon
Sweet soy sauce 2 tablespoons
Salt, sugar, and pepper To taste
Water 150-200 ml
Oil for sautéing As needed

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics
    Heat a bit of oil in a pan. Add the sliced shallots, garlic, onion, and bird’s eye chilies. Sauté the ingredients over medium heat until fragrant and softened.

  2. Add Water and Seasonings
    Pour 150-200 ml of water into the pan, and add the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, salt, sugar, and pepper to taste. Stir the mixture to combine and allow it to simmer for a few minutes.

  3. Incorporate Fried Tofu
    Add the fried tofu cubes into the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu with the sauce. Let it cook for a few more minutes to allow the tofu to absorb the flavors.

  4. Cook the Vegetables
    Once the tofu is well coated, add the bean sprouts and scallions. Stir everything together until the vegetables are evenly distributed. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, just until the bean sprouts are tender but still crisp.

  5. Adjust Consistency
    If you prefer a more soupy consistency, you can add a bit more water to the pan at this point. Stir and cook for an additional minute.

  6. Serve
    Remove from heat and transfer the dish to a serving plate. Serve immediately, while hot, with steamed rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the amount of bird’s eye chilies based on your spice preference.
  • If you enjoy the dish with more sauce, you can add more water at the end of the cooking process.
