Tahu Telur with Malang-style Peanut Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized tofu blocks, cut into small cubes
  • 3 eggs
  • Red chili peppers (optional, to taste)
  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • 4 tablespoons roasted peanuts

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu into small, bite-sized cubes.

  2. Prepare the Eggs: Beat the eggs in a bowl until well combined.

  3. Coat the Tofu: Add the tofu cubes to the beaten eggs. Season with salt, pepper, and any desired seasoning. Mix well to ensure the tofu is evenly coated.

  4. Fry the Tofu: Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu cubes until they turn a golden brown color, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  5. Make the Peanut Sauce: In a mortar and pestle or food processor, grind the garlic, roasted peanuts, sugar, salt, and optional red chili peppers into a smooth paste.

  6. Add Liquid: Gradually add water to the peanut paste, stirring until the sauce reaches a thick but pourable consistency. Mix in the sweet soy sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.

  7. Serve: Drizzle the peanut sauce over the fried tofu cubes. Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious, savory blend of tofu and rich peanut sauce.
