Prepare the Tofu Mixture: In a bowl, mash the yellow tofu and mix in the beaten egg and crumbled seaweed until well combined.

Steam the Tofu: Transfer the mixture to a heatproof dish and steam for approximately 20 minutes or until set.

Make the Mushroom Sauce: While the tofu is steaming, heat a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture.

Season the Sauce: Stir in the oyster sauce, salt, and sugar. Mix well, then pour in the water. Allow it to come to a boil.

Thicken the Sauce: Dissolve the cornstarch in 3 tablespoons of water, then gradually add it to the sauce, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
