For the Sweet Soy Sambal:

  • 8 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Cut the Chinese tofu into bite-sized cubes.
    • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Fry the tofu cubes in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  2. Make the Sweet Soy Sambal:

    • In a separate pan, heat 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced shallots, garlic, and green bird’s eye chilies.
    • Sauté until the shallots and garlic are tender and fragrant, and the chilies have softened. Cook until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
    • Drain excess oil if necessary and add a generous amount of sweet soy sauce to the mixture, stirring well to combine.
  3. Serve:

    • Toss the crispy tofu cubes with the sweet soy sambal, ensuring that each piece is well-coated.
    • Serve immediately, and enjoy your delicious Tahu Goreng Sambel Kecap!
