Crispy Fried Wonton with Vermicelli Filling

Ingredients:

  • 1 bundle of vermicelli noodles
  • Cabbage (amount as desired)
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 egg
  • 5 shallots
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Oyster sauce (to taste)
  • Soy sauce (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Wonton wrappers

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Carrot: Peel and dice the carrot into small pieces. Cook the diced carrot in boiling water until tender. Once cooked, drain and set aside.

  2. Cook the Egg: Beat the egg and cook it in a pan over medium heat, scrambling it into small pieces. Season with a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  3. Prepare the Aromatics: Finely chop the shallots and garlic. Heat some oil in a pan and sauté the shallots and garlic until fragrant and golden.

  4. Combine the Filling: Soak the vermicelli noodles in hot water according to package instructions until softened. Drain well. Add the softened noodles to the pan with the sautéed shallots and garlic. Mix in the cooked carrot, shredded cabbage, chopped celery, and scrambled egg.

  5. Season the Filling: Stir in the oyster sauce and soy sauce. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or seasoning if needed. Cook until all the ingredients are well combined and heated through. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  6. Assemble the Wontons: Take a wonton wrapper and place a spoonful of the filling in the center. Fold the wrapper to enclose the filling, pinching the edges to seal securely.

  7. Fry the Wontons: Heat oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium heat. Carefully add the filled wontons and fry until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking. Once fried, remove the wontons from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  8. Serve: Enjoy your crispy fried wontons warm, as a delightful appetizer or snack.
