  • Cook Time: 5 minutes
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Servings: 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh asparagus
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dry sherry
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Begin by preparing the asparagus. Trim the woody ends and cut the spears into 2-inch pieces. Set aside.
2 Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Once hot, add the prepared asparagus to the pan.
3 Stir fry the asparagus for about 1 minute until they start to become tender but still maintain their crunch.
4 In a small bowl, mix together the water and sugar. Pour this mixture over the asparagus in the wok.
5 Cover the wok and allow the asparagus to steam for 2 minutes. Shake the pan occasionally to ensure even cooking.
6 While the asparagus steams, combine the minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, dry sherry, crushed red pepper flakes, and sliced green onions in a bowl.
7 After 2 minutes, uncover the wok and add the prepared sauce mixture to the asparagus. Stir well to coat the asparagus evenly.
8 Cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring continuously, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the asparagus beautifully.
9 Once cooked to perfection, remove the wok from the heat.
10 Serve your Asian-inspired asparagus immediately, garnished with extra sliced green onions if desired. Enjoy this delightful dish as a quick lunch or satisfying snack!

Recipe Notes:

  • Adjust Cooking Time: If using very thin asparagus, reduce the cooking time accordingly to ensure they remain crunchy.
  • Versatility: This recipe works well with broccoli too! Simply substitute the asparagus with broccoli florets for a delicious variation.
  • Serve Hot: For the best flavor and texture, serve the Asian asparagus immediately after cooking.
