Indulge in the rich and decadent flavors of Buttermilk-Chocolate Brownies. These moist and fudgy brownies are perfect for dessert lovers of all ages. With a hint of tanginess from buttermilk and a luscious chocolate frosting, they are sure to become a favorite treat for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk (for frosting)
  • 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans (optional, for frosting)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a sheet pan and set it aside.

  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Prepare Chocolate Mixture: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add cocoa powder and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to just boiling, stirring constantly. Once it reaches a boil, remove it from the heat.

  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Use a mixer to beat the mixture until well combined. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Beat for about 1 minute until the batter is smooth. It will be thin in consistency.

  5. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan, spreading it evenly. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Prepare the Frosting: While the brownies are baking, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the remaining unsalted butter, cocoa powder, and buttermilk. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove it from the heat. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth. Stir in chopped pecans if desired.

  7. Frost the Brownies: Once the brownies are done baking, remove them from the oven. While they are still warm, pour the warm frosting over the brownies, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the frosted brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. Serve and enjoy the rich and indulgent Buttermilk-Chocolate Brownies!

These brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for several days, but they are so delicious, they might not last that long! Enjoy them with a glass of cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat.
