Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons nonfat milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 Rome apples
  • 2 sheets phyllo dough

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC).

  2. In a small saucepan, combine the nonfat milk, ground cinnamon, and caramel.

  3. Place the saucepan over low heat, and cook until the mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.

  4. Remove the caramel mixture from heat and set it aside.

  5. Core the Rome apples, making sure to cut to, but not through, the bottom of each apple.

  6. Spoon the caramel mixture evenly into the centers of the cored apples.

  7. Place the stuffed apples in a small baking dish, cover, and bake at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) for 35 minutes, or just until the apples are tender.

  8. Once baked, remove the apples from the dish and allow them to cool.

  9. While the apples are cooling, prepare the phyllo dough.

  10. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a damp towel, keeping the remaining phyllo covered to prevent it from drying out.

  11. Coat the phyllo sheet with cooking spray, then fold it in half crosswise.

  12. Place one apple on the phyllo rectangle.

  13. Coat the edges of the phyllo with cooking spray, then bring the corners to the center, pinching the phyllo to seal it around the apple.

  14. Repeat the process with the remaining apples and phyllo sheets.

  15. Place the assembled dumplings on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.

  16. Bake the dumplings at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) for 5 minutes, or until the phyllo dough is golden brown.

  17. Once baked, remove the dumplings from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
