  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup amaretto liqueur
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Shell:

    • Line a 9-inch pie pan with aluminum foil, ensuring it is smooth.
    • Melt 1 cup of chocolate chips with 2 teaspoons of butter over medium heat.
    • Spread the melted chocolate evenly in the bottom and up the sides of the pie plate to form the crust. Place it in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to set.

    • Cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until the chocolate melts.
    • Add water and continue stirring. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

    • Fold some of the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture, stirring briskly to incorporate.
    • Gently fold the remaining whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
    • Remove the chocolate crust from the freezer and carefully remove the foil from the shell.
    • Pour the chocolate mousse mixture into the chocolate shell crust, spreading it evenly.
  4. Chill and Serve:

    • Chill the pie for at least 3 1/2 hours or until set.
    • Serve chilled slices garnished with a dollop of whipped cream and lightly sprinkled with slivered or crushed almonds, if desired.
