Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pints chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream
- 6 chocolate-covered cherries
- 5 ounces chocolate (for coating)
Instructions:
-
Prepare Ice Cream Balls:
- Scoop the chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream into 6 balls, using approximately 1/2 cup of ice cream for each ball.
- While the ice cream is still in the scoop, gently push a chocolate-covered cherry into the center of each ice cream ball.
-
Freeze Ice Cream Balls:
- Line a baking pan with plastic wrap.
- Place the prepared ice cream balls in the pan and freeze for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
-
Melt Chocolate:
- In the meantime, melt the chocolate in the top of a double boiler over barely simmering water. Stir occasionally until smooth and fully melted.
-
Prepare Chocolate Coating:
- Lay a long sheet of wax paper on an overturned jelly roll pan.
- Pour the melted chocolate onto the wax paper and spread it evenly to cover the length and width using a thin metal spatula.
- Freeze the chocolate until just before serving time, allowing it to become crackly hard.
-
Assemble Tartuffo:
- Break the frozen chocolate into jagged pieces.
- Place a few pieces of the broken chocolate in the bottoms of 6 dessert dishes.
- Top each dish with an ice cream ball and sprinkle the remaining chocolate pieces over each serving.
-
Optional: Freeze Desserts:
- If not serving immediately, the assembled desserts may be frozen at this stage until ready to serve.
Serving Suggestions:
Tartuffo is best enjoyed immediately after assembling, allowing the contrast between the creamy ice cream and the crisp chocolate coating to tantalize your taste buds. Serve in elegant dessert dishes for a stunning presentation that will elevate any occasion.
