Perfect for picnics, gatherings, or any occasion where you want to impress, this tart is not only beautiful to behold but also incredibly easy to make. Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup brewed coffee, cooled

For the Filling:

  • 12 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons Tia Maria (coffee liqueur)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, for decoration

Instructions

Making the Crust:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: In a food processor, combine the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Pulse the mixture on and off three or four times until the ingredients are well combined.

  2. Incorporate the Butter: Distribute the chilled butter pieces evenly over the flour mixture in the food processor. Pulse the machine on and off several times until the mixture resembles small crumbs.

  3. Add Coffee: Pour the cooled coffee into the mixture and pulse briefly until the dough comes together and is evenly mixed.

  4. Form the Crust: Using your fingers, press the dough evenly into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch tart pan. Chill the crust in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.

  5. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Preparing the Filling:

  1. Mix the Filling Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the chopped chocolate, granulated sugar, butter, whole milk, and Tia Maria until smooth and well combined.

  2. Incorporate Eggs and Walnuts: Stir in the beaten eggs and chopped walnuts until the mixture is evenly combined.

  3. Bake the Tart: Pour the chocolate filling into the chilled tart shell, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the top of the tart is set and dry.

Finishing Touches:

  1. Decorate the Tart: Once the tart is baked and cooled, place strips of waxed paper in a criss-cross pattern on the top of the tart. Sift confectioners’ sugar over the top to create a beautiful design. Carefully remove the waxed paper strips to reveal the decorative pattern.

  2. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the tart as is or with a scoop of ice cream if desired. Enjoy the rich, creamy chocolate filling with the perfect hint of coffee in every bite!
