Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes

Description: This delectable Frozen Oreo Cookie Dessert is a cherished family recipe, often requested for birthdays and special occasions due to its incredibly rich and chocolatey flavor. Combining layers of creamy ice cream, luscious hot fudge, and crunchy Oreo cookie crust, this dessert is a true crowd-pleaser that’s guaranteed to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Ingredients:

  • 26 Oreo cookies
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 gallon ice cream (vanilla or your favorite flavor)
  • 1 cup hot fudge sauce
  • 1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Cool Whip: Begin by setting the Cool Whip out at room temperature to soften. This will make it easier to spread later.

  2. Prepare the Crust: Take 24 Oreo cookies and crush them into fine crumbs. Reserve about 1/3 cup of these crumbs for the topping.

  3. Mix Crumbs and Butter: In a bowl, combine the crushed Oreo cookies with the melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are well coated and the mixture resembles wet sand.

  4. Form the Crust: Press the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Use the back of a spoon or the bottom of a glass to firmly press the crumbs down.

  5. Freeze the Crust: Place the pan in the freezer for about 20 minutes to allow the crust to set and become firm.

  6. Layer the Dessert: Once the crust is set, begin layering the dessert:

    • Start with a layer of ice cream. For easier layering, use ice cream that comes in a brick form. Simply unwrap the carton and slice the ice cream into thick layers.
    • Spread half of the ice cream evenly over the chilled crust.
    • Drizzle half of the hot fudge sauce over the ice cream layer.
    • Add the remaining ice cream on top of the fudge sauce, smoothing it out to create an even layer.
    • Finish with the remaining hot fudge sauce, spreading it over the top.
  7. Freeze the Layers: Return the pan to the freezer and let it freeze for an additional 20 minutes, allowing the layers to firm up.

  8. Add the Cool Whip: After the dessert has frozen, spread the softened Cool Whip evenly over the top layer of hot fudge. Smooth it out to cover the entire surface.

  9. Final Freeze: Place the pan back in the freezer and let it chill until you’re ready to serve. This will allow the Cool Whip to firm up and blend nicely with the other layers.

  10. Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the reserved Oreo cookie crumbs over the Cool Whip for a finishing touch. Cut into squares and enjoy!
