Description:
When I received an invitation to a Rosh Hashana dinner and was tasked with bringing dessert, I knew I wanted to create something truly special. Collaborating with some incredible folks on the Zaar Q&A thread, including Terese, PetitFour, Jules, CCLady, Ann Teapot, Iron Bloomers, Charishma, Evelyn/Athens, MarieAlice, HeatherFeather, Joni G, Mrs. Beeton wannabe, Dancer, Amy – Ellie’s Mommie, Bergy, Watermelon, and Ann Marie F, this Toffee Apple and Honey Trifle was born. It was an absolute hit!

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 package cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 14 ounces vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1/3 cup Skor bits
  • 1 loaf pound cake (sliced into cubes)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Begin by preparing all the necessary ingredients for the trifle, ensuring they are ready to assemble.

  2. Slice Pound Cakes: Take the pound cakes and slice them down the middle length-wise. Then, cut each loaf into 10-12 slices, resulting in 20-24 cubes per loaf, with a maximum of 48 cubes.

  3. Saute Apples: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced apples and sauté until they are soft and tender.

  4. Add Cinnamon: Once the apples are softened, sprinkle them with cinnamon, ensuring each slice is coated evenly. Mix well and set aside.

  5. Prepare Cream Mixture: In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the whipping cream, cream cheese, honey, and vanilla instant pudding mix. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  6. Process Skor Bits: Place the Skor bits into a food processor and pulse until they are finely chopped. Set aside.

  7. Assemble Trifle: Now, it’s time to assemble the trifle in a large clear bowl with relatively straight sides. Since this recipe yields a large quantity, you may create up to three layers.

  8. Layer 1: Begin by laying down a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of the bowl.

  9. Layer 2: Next, spread the sautéed apples evenly over the cake layer.

  10. Layer 3: Now, generously spread a layer of the prepared cream mixture over the apples.

  11. Layer 4: Sprinkle a layer of the chopped Skor bits over the cream.

  12. Repeat Layers: Continue layering the ingredients until you’ve used them all, ensuring to end with a final layer of Skor bits on top.

  13. Additional Note: If you find you have extra cake, create a layer of cake and cream in the middle before starting the layering process again.
