Texas Brownies are a quintessential treat that perfectly blends the rich flavors of chocolate, butter, and a hint of coffee for a decadent dessert experience. With a prep time of just 15 minutes and a total time of 35 minutes, these delightful squares of goodness are ready to satisfy your sweet cravings in under an hour. 🍫🤤

Ingredients:

For the Brownies:
2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup butter
2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup shortening 1/4 cup water
1 cup brewed coffee 1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
For the Frosting:
1/2 cup butter 1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup milk 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 17 1/2 by 11 inch jelly roll pan generously with butter to ensure the brownies don’t stick.

  2. Prepare the Brownie Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar until well mixed.

  3. In a heavy saucepan, combine the butter, margarine, shortening, brewed coffee (or water), and cocoa. Stir and heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a boil.

  4. Pour the boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in the mixing bowl.

  5. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla to the bowl.

  6. Mix everything well, either using a wooden spoon or on high speed with an electric mixer until the batter is smooth and all ingredients are fully incorporated.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared jelly roll pan, spreading it out evenly.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the brownies are set in the center and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out mostly clean.

  9. While the Brownies Bake, Prepare the Frosting: In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it comes to a boil.

  10. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla until the frosting is smooth and glossy.

  11. Pour the warm frosting over the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven, spreading it out evenly to cover the entire surface.

  12. Allow the frosted brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 48 delicious squares.

  13. Serve and enjoy these heavenly Texas Brownies with a glass of cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat! 🥛🍨

These brownies boast a perfect balance of moist, fudgy texture with a rich chocolate flavor, elevated by the addition of brewed coffee in both the batter and frosting, which adds a depth of flavor without overwhelming sweetness. The frosting, with its creamy texture and cocoa richness, provides the ideal finishing touch to these delightful squares. So, whether you’re craving a quick chocolate fix or planning a gathering with friends and family, these Texas Brownies are sure to be a hit! 🌟
