Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate syrup

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Allow butter and eggs to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
2 Meanwhile, grease and lightly flour a 10-inch fluted tube pan.
3 In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
4 In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on low to medium speed for about 30 seconds.
5 Add sugar and vanilla; beat until fluffy.
6 Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
7 Add milk and flour mixture alternately to the butter mixture, beating on high for 2 minutes.
8 Reserve 2 cups of batter.
9 Pour the remaining batter into the prepared pan.
10 In another mixing bowl, combine chocolate syrup and the reserved 2 cups of batter. Mix well.
11 Pour the chocolate batter over the vanilla batter in the pan. Do not mix.
12 Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for about 50 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
13 Cool the cake in the pan for 15 minutes on a wire rack.
14 Remove the cake from the pan and cool it completely on the wire rack.
