Instructions

Soaking the Moong Dhal: Begin by soaking the whole moong dhal in water for about 15 minutes. This will help to soften the beans and reduce the cooking time.

Cooking the Dhal: After soaking, drain the moong dhal and place it in a pressure cooker. Add approximately 350ml of water. Secure the lid on the cooker and cook at high pressure for 10 minutes. Once done, turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally.

Tempering the Spices: While the dhal is cooking, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Sautรฉ them until they start to sizzle, releasing their aromatic flavors.

Mixing Ingredients: Carefully pour the cooked moong dhal into the pan with the tempered spices. Add the turmeric, chilli powder, crushed coriander seeds, lemon juice, salt, and sugar (if using). Stir the mixture thoroughly to combine all the spices and flavors evenly.
