Beef Teriyaki for Students

Ingredients:

  • 5 sheets of wood ear mushrooms
  • 1 ounce enoki mushrooms (affordable at Hypermart)
  • 1 ounce lean beef
  • 1 ounce green beans
  • 1 package egg tofu, sliced and fried
  • 1 local carrot (local carrots are healthier and more affordable)
  • 1/4 kg quail eggs
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter/margarine
  • 2 packets of Saori teriyaki sauce
  • 1/2 packet of Saori oyster sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Heat the butter/margarine and sesame oil in a pan over very low heat.
    • Sauté the chopped onion and crushed garlic until fragrant and slightly golden brown.
  2. Make the Sauce:

    • Add the Saori teriyaki sauce, Saori oyster sauce, ground black pepper, sugar, and salt to the pan.
    • Pour in 3 cups (400 ml) of water and stir to combine.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Add the thinly sliced beef, carrot, and quail eggs to the pan.
    • Allow the mixture to simmer until the liquid is reduced by half and the flavors are well absorbed by the beef.
  4. Thicken the Sauce:

    • Dissolve the cornstarch in 25 ml of water and add it to the pan.
    • Stir until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the Remaining Ingredients:

    • Incorporate the remaining ingredients: wood ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, green beans, and egg tofu.
    • Cook for about 1 minute until everything is heated through.
  6. Finish and Serve:

    • Turn off the heat and serve the Beef Teriyaki immediately.
