Simple Chicken Meatball Soup (Bakso Ayam Sederhana)

Ingredients

  • 8 pieces chicken meatballs (bakso ayam)
  • 2 pieces stuffed tofu (tahu aci)
  • 1 package egg noodles (I use Burung Dara brand), cooked and drained
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced and fried
  • Scallions, as needed
  • Fried shallots and celery for garnish
  • Ground white pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground nutmeg (optional), to taste

Steps

  1. Prepare the Broth:

    • Begin by heating water in a pot. Once it’s warm, add the fried garlic slices.
    • Bring the water to a boil, then season with ground white pepper, salt, scallions, and ground nutmeg (if using). Adjust the seasoning to taste.
    • Once the broth is well-seasoned, add the chicken meatballs and stuffed tofu.
  2. Cook the Meatballs and Tofu:

    • Allow the meatballs and tofu to simmer in the broth until they are no longer frozen and are heated through (since the meatballs and tofu might have been in the freezer).
  3. Assemble the Dish:

    • In serving bowls, place the cooked egg noodles.
    • Arrange the chicken meatballs and stuffed tofu over the noodles.
    • Ladle the hot broth over the noodles, meatballs, and tofu.
  4. Garnish and Serve:

    • Sprinkle the top with fried shallots and chopped celery.
    • For a spicy kick, you can add sliced bird’s eye chilies or serve with homemade chili sauce.
    • Squeeze a bit of lime juice over the top for a refreshing tangy flavor.

Tips:

  • If you prefer a spicy dish, feel free to add some chopped bird’s eye chilies or a spoonful of your favorite hot sauce.
  • A squeeze of lime juice at the end adds a lovely refreshing tartness to the soup, balancing the flavors beautifully.

Enjoy this comforting and simple chicken meatball soup, perfect for a cozy meal any day of the week!
