Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
All Purpose Flour (Maida) 6-1/2 cups
Active Dry Yeast 2 teaspoons
Sugar 3 tablespoons
Salt 1 tablespoon
Lukewarm Water 2 cups
Oil (or any oil) 2 tablespoons

Prep Time: 240 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 270 minutes
Yield: 2 loaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Start by gathering all the necessary ingredients and having them ready for use. This includes measuring out the flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and oil.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer), add the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast. If you’re using yeast that needs proofing, you would need to add it with the wet ingredients. Stir the dry ingredients together until well combined.

  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the lukewarm water and oil to the dry ingredients. If you’re using proofed yeast, add it at this stage with the water and oil. Start mixing the dough, either by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.

  4. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough for about 10 to 15 minutes. This process helps develop the gluten, which is key to getting that lovely texture in your bread. The dough may initially be sticky—don’t worry, just continue kneading.

  5. Let the Dough Rise: After kneading, cover the dough and allow it to rest for about 2 hours. The dough will rise and double in size during this time.

  6. Shape the Dough: Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half and shape each portion into a loaf. Grease two 9 x 4 or 9 x 5-inch loaf pans and place the shaped dough into the pans. Let the dough rise again for another 2 hours until it has doubled in size.

  7. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).

  8. Bake the Bread: Place the pans into the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. You’ll know the bread is done when the crust turns golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  9. Cool the Bread: Carefully remove the bread from the pans and place them on a cooling rack. Allow the loaves to cool for at least 10 to 15 minutes before slicing. The bread should have a soft interior with a crisp golden crust.
