Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pears: Start by mixing the sliced fresh pears with 1/2 cup of sugar. Let the mixture stand for a few minutes to allow the pears to release some of their juices.

  2. Melt the Margarine: Place the margarine into a 2-quart casserole dish and put it in the preheated 325Β°F oven until melted. This will create a warm base for the cobbler batter.

  3. Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar. Mix well to ensure even distribution of all dry ingredients.

  4. Mix the Wet Ingredients: Beat the egg in a small bowl, then add the milk. Mix these wet ingredients together until well combined.

  5. Make the Batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring until a batter forms. The batter should have a smooth consistency.

  6. Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the batter over the melted margarine in the casserole dish. Do not stir. Carefully spoon the pears (with their juices) on top of the batter, spreading them evenly. Again, do not stir.

  7. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 1 hour at 325Β°F. The cobbler is done when the top is golden brown and the batter has set.

  8. Serve: Serve the cobbler hot or cold, as preferred. A dollop of Cool Whip or a scoop of vanilla ice cream adds a perfect finishing touch to this warm, comforting dessert.
