Siomay Salmon: A Simple and Delicious Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams of salmon fillet
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 3 cloves of garlic, minced)
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 8 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Water, for steaming
  • Sauce: Pre-made peanut sauce or sambal kacang, diluted, and soy sauce

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Salmon:
Begin by breaking the salmon fillet into small pieces using a fork until the texture is finely shredded and soft.

  2. Mix Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded salmon with the egg, garlic powder (or minced garlic), ground black pepper, chicken bouillon powder, and vegetable oil. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  3. Incorporate the Flours:
Gradually add the all-purpose flour and tapioca flour to the salmon mixture. Mix until the dough is smooth and pliable. If the mixture is too sticky, add additional tapioca flour, a tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the desired consistency, similar to play dough.

  4. Shape the Siomay:
Form the dough into small, round balls, resembling meatballs. Arrange the shaped balls on a steamer tray.

  5. Steam:
Steam the siomay over boiling water for about 20 minutes. Ensure the steamer is covered to retain the steam and cook the siomay evenly.

  6. Serve:
Once cooked, carefully remove the siomay from the steamer. Cut them into desired portions. Serve with a drizzle of peanut sauce or sambal kacang, and a splash of soy sauce to enhance the flavor.

Enjoy your homemade siomay salmon, a simple yet delightful dish that pairs perfectly with a variety of sauces for a burst of flavor!
