Simple Stir-Fried Tempe ala Mama Kina

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Tempe (cut into cubes) 1 block (papan)
Red chili peppers 3 pieces
Green chili peppers 3 pieces
Medium-sized onion (sliced) 1/2 onion
Shallots (finely chopped) 4 cloves
Garlic (minced) 3 cloves
Salt To taste
Oyster sauce 1/2 tablespoon
Sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis) To taste
Chicken-flavored seasoning (Royco) To taste
Cooking oil As needed

Instructions:

  1. Fry the Tempe:
Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the tempe cubes until golden brown and crispy. Once fried, set them aside to drain the excess oil.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics:
In the same pan, add more oil if needed. Sauté the sliced shallots, minced garlic, and onion until fragrant and soft.

  3. Add the Chilies:
Next, add the red and green chili peppers to the pan. Stir-fry for another minute until the chilies start to soften.

  4. Combine with Tempe:
Add the fried tempe to the pan. Mix well with the sautéed aromatics and chilies.

  5. Seasoning:
Pour in the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis), Royco chicken seasoning, salt, and a pinch of sugar. Stir everything well to coat the tempe with the seasoning.

  6. Taste and Adjust:
Taste the dish and adjust seasoning as needed. If you prefer a more savory or sweet flavor, add extra soy sauce or sugar.

  7. Serve:
Once the tempe is well-coated and flavorful, remove from heat and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade stir-fried tempe with steamed rice or as a delicious side dish.
